Too Good To Not Post!

As I was sitting here on the internet procrastinating going to the grocery store socializing, I came upon this post in a group that I'm a part of and I couldn't resist posting it!!

Articles of Faith of Mormon Culture

1. We believe in SUVs and minivans, as the form of transportation, and in knee length shorts, which are always nice, and in multilevel marketing.

2. We believe that Church ball players should be punished for their own fouls, and not for unsportsmanlike aggression.

3. We believe that through bread crumbs, cheese, creamy soups, and rice all casseroles can be saved through obedience to ward cookbooks and creativity in the mixing bowl.

4. We believe that the first layers and ingredients of the dip are: first, beans; second, cheese; third, chopped tomatoes; fourth, the gift of sour cream; fifth, olives; sixth, salsa; seventh, guacamole, that is, if you have it.

5. We believe that a Mormon should have a distinguished or a cute name, that it is appropriate to name a child after a church leader or a historical figure including an ancestor, that alternative spellings and French prefixes only add to a name, and that when referring to the names of General Authorities, middle initials should be a part thereof.

6. We believe in the same wall decor that exists in many Mormon homes, namely, framed family proclamations, vinyl lettering, inspirational word signs, family photos, pictures of temples and Jesus, and so forth.

7. We believe in the gift of the re-gift, Church books, crafts, family photos, baked goods, emergency supply kits, and so forth.

8. We believe in sparkling grape juice so long as it is nonalcoholic; we also believe in bringing root beer and sprite to ward parties.

9. We believe in all that we have scrapbooked or blogged , all that we will now scrapbook or blog , and we believe that we will yet scrapbook and blog many great and important things pertaining to our family, friends, pets, and vacations.

10. We believe in the literal mixing of ketchup and mayo and in the generous application of ranch dressing; that CBAs (church-based acronyms) will be used to describe YM/YW, PEC, the Y, NCMO, and CTR; that Mitt Romney will get Mormons to vote for him any time he runs; and, that the Mormons will enjoy reading Twilight and The Work and the Glory.

11. We claim the privilege of trying to identify common acquaintances with any visitor at Church, and allow all other people at Church the same privilege, and let them name drop the names of famous and General Authorities how, where, or what they may.

12. We believe in being subject to scoutmasters, pampered chef hostesses, and the writers of the U.S. News and World Report rankings for professional schools, and in obeying, honoring, and sustaining Glenn Beck.

13. We believe in being above average, good at crafts, optimistic, and being fifteen minutes late everywhere we go. Indeed, we may say that we follow BYU football. We believe rumors about famous people joining the Church, we hope to meet the three Nephites, we have endured many pyramid schemes, and hope to be able to endure all pyramid schemes. If there is anything cheap, free, sold in bulk, or given away when somebody is moving, we seek after these things.

Not ready!

This adorable baby boy turns 1 in a week and I am sooooooo not ready for it! I went through his drawers tonight and cried while packing up my favorite clothes that he doesn't fit in anymore.

It's just so surreal to me that a year ago I was hugely pregnant, living in cold Salt Lake City and working at Chili's and didn't have a BABY! Oh how my life has changed!

I am so grateful for this little dude, he is just so adorable and brightens every day of my life! I can never be mad at him for long cuz that little smile of his just melts my heart! I'm so grateful that I've been given the chance to experience the utter joy of being a mom!

Now off to take care of another side effect of being a mom...Utter sleep deprivation!

Guess What Time It Is!

Yeah it's time for another super long post stuffed full of pictures. I've been keeping ourselves busy with new highchairs, new foods, and learning new things! Silas is just too cute for words. He loves his highchair and LOVES food, especially "big boy" food. I'll feed him his dinner and then sit down with mine and within 2 minutes he's at my knee, looking at my plate and licking his lips! He's officially gone without a bottle at night for a whole week tonight! He is starting to sleep through the night more, usually waking up at 4 or 5 in the morning and *gasp* coming in bed with Mommy until he wakes back up at 8 or so. I'm going to give him another week of not having a bottle at night, then start getting him to go back to sleep in his crib and then after we master that...Going to sleep on his own!!! It'll be a process but I'd rather take my time and have it stick then not.
He's got his front four top and bottom teeth and is working on cutting a few molars. He was really unhappy for a few days, but with a combo of Orajel and Motrin he's been a lot better. He hasn't even had anything today and was just fine!
He still has yet to stand for more than a few seconds by himself, but is working on wearing a path in the rug from cruising around the coffee table. Physically he's developing right along schedule but socially he has no interest in learning how to "give loves", give kisses, wave, any of that stuff. It makes me a little worried, but I just need to be better about trying to teach him things and it'll all come along eventually. He loves just about anyone who will hold him and give him attention!

We had a really bad rainstorm which flooded the wash by my house...Then a week later it rained so hard they shut down my road on one side!

You can't tell but his feet aren't even touching the floor here!

Shout-outs!

I know that I am hopelessly behind in blogging, but I wanted to take a minute to do some shout-outs.

The first goes to Jake and Rachel Fry's awesome new company, decclo, which can be found here. They have amazingly cute t-shirts and a great "by the people, for the people" approach to business and design. I need to get my hands on their Tree City print shirt pretty much ASAP! Go to their blog, fall in love, and ORDER THEIR SHIRTS! :)

This is a shamless self promotion, but oh well. I mentioned it about a month ago, but I've started my own cooking blog. Like this blog, I'm hopelessly behind in updating it, but I'm determined to keep up with my blogging from here on out! The blog, The Baking Diva, will just highlight my adventures, mishaps, and successes in cooking and my mission to become a better baker. Do me a favor and post this on your blog or Facebook (or Myspace!), tell a friend, just get the word out! As of right now I don't think ANYONE has read it, and that make me sad!

Speaking of cooking, this woman is amazing in the kitchen, and pretty much my hero for right now. Go check her out!

And just so this blog isn't COMPLETELY without pictures, here is my adorable sleeping son...

Gosh, he's cute!!! :)

♫ These are a few of my favorite things ♫

I've been wandering through and around the house the last few days taking pictures of my favorite things here. I love coming home so much, I just had to capture a few of my favorite things so I can look at them anytime!

Our beautiful Christmas tree

Watching whatever's going on in the kitchen from my mom's amazing Lay-Z-Boy

Our front yard. Isn't that just picture perfect!

The kitchen, and the view from the kitchen window

All the fog that make this are so dang pretty!

Of course my stinkin' cute little baby! And my brown hair. :)

And, finally, my mom's Kindle that I've fallen in love with! If hers is missing when I leave to go back to Cali, it wasn't me!!!

Happy doings

We've been quite busy at home baking, sewing, pulling ornaments off the Christmas tree (Silas), putting ornaments back on the tree (Me), napping, playing and eating!
This last weekend we spent the night in Seattle and picked up Uncle Ben from the airport on Saturday. Silas still isn't totally sure of him, but likes him enough to let Ben hold him...A good start!
I finally got the guts to start a cooking blog, an idea I've been tossing around in my brain for a long time. You can find it at www.thebakingdiva.blogspot.com. Check it out!
Here's a bunch of pictures from our time here so far!

The view from the hotel window

How do you stop a baby from pulling open and shut the drawers, thereby putting his little fingers in danger?...

Simple! You put him IN the drawer! This entertained him for like 15 minutes. It was great.

Long story short, my suitecase, with all of Silas's clothes AND his swimsuit got left in Poulsbo. Our friends the Broadbents were able to get it for me before they came over, but we were too impatient to wait for a swimsuit. So he swam in his onesie and LOVED it!
